[New Arrival] entertainments of the Edo period : kumigami-e by Yoshifuji and sugoroku

The 17th annual EDO ART EXPO is being held across Chuo, Chiyoda, Minato and Sumida ward from Friday, September 20 through Tuesday, October 8.
In conjunction with this event, we are holding an exhibition “Entertainments of Edo”focusing on traditions, cultures, and history of the Edo period.
All the works on show are now available at our website.

Kumiage-e(Tatebanko)
Kumiage-e is a kind of “Omocha-e” produced and published from the late Edo period to the modern era. As its name implies, it is to be cut out and backed by other paper for strengthening in order to construct a three-dimensional scene.
Many of them are miniatures of Kabuki plays and stages, or landscapes and famous places.
Sadly, kumiage-e almost disappeared around the beginning of the 20th century, and very few of those remain today.
